AntoNym's Adventure Home is is an educational CD Rom for children from grades K-6 with speech and language disorders. It started as my senior project at The Art Institute and has remained a side project that I work on from time to time.
The story of AntoNym is that he is trying to get back to his home planet. In order to reach his home planet he must stop at each planet in his path. The project currently has three planets with three sets of questions per planet. I worked with my girlfriend who is a speech pathologist to create questions that are targeted towards common speech and language disorders that children have. The children cannot actually get a question wrong, they just have to keep trying until they get it correct. At the end of each planet they get to fly to the next planet and shoot asteroids for bonus points. I added the shooting portion to break up the questions and let the kids have some fun rather than just bombard them with questions.
When the child gets AntoNym home they can print out their results which include how many times it took them to get each question correct and their total points. These results can then aid the teacher or parent in figuring out where the child is having the most trouble.
